Mavericks not optimistic about keeping Shawn Marion
By Mike Dyce
The Dallas Mavericks are putting their attention and focus on a “big fish” free agent like LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony. In the mean time, they’re hoping a decision is made soon so they can switch gears to Plan B if necessary.

In the mean time some key pieces, like veterans Devin Harris, Vince Carter and Shawn Marion, could get away. The Mavericks and owner Mark Cuban met with Harris the night free agency opened and remain optimistic about keeping him, and potentially even Carter.
ESPN Dallas’ Tim MacMahon though says they’re less optimistic about keeping Marion though.
Marion is reportedly getting interest from the Miami Heat and has been a solid shut down defender for the Mavericks. Ideally the Mavs would like to keep him.
Marion made it clear what he is looking for in free agency and with a new team, a ring.
From ArizonaSports.com:
"“I want to play a couple more years,” he said, adding that his preference is to re-sign with Dallas, but he’s open to other locales. “My ultimate goal is to win another championship, so it’s wherever I feel is the best chance to win another championship.”"
Dallas certainly presents that opportunity.
