The Chicago Cubs are looking back at the eleventh anniversary of the Steve Bartman incident and it seems, ironically, that was the last time they’ve been any sort of good. Chicago has been a joke of a big league club and the fact that Wrigley Field is literally crumbling into dust and falling apart is more than a perfect metaphor.

Chicago had an ace pitcher in Jeff Samardzija so they naturally traded him away on Friday night to the Oakland Athletics for a top prospect. While the prospect, Addison Russell, is one of the top yooung players coming up in the game, fans on the North Side are getting tired of growing prospects like Samardzija and then trading them so they can have more prospects to grow.
Theo Epstein spoke about the trading of his top pitcher and noted that this is hopefully the last time the Cubs are sellers of that type at the trade deadline.
"“We thought a lot internally as we went through this process that we hope that this is the last year that we’ll be obvious sellers at the deadline. And, nothing would make us happier than aggressively adding to the big league team and enhancing chances for a World Series,” Epstein said. “We repeated to ourselves that this type of move is not something that we want to do.”"
That doesn’t sound very confident, as it’s more of a shoulder shrug statement than and actual statement that things are going to get better.
Epstein managed to build a winner in Boston but he’s starting to wear thin with Cubs fans who either don’t understand his vision or understand that he might not have one.
