The Dallas Mavericks were among the handful of teams to get a visit from New York Knicks forward and coveted free agent Carmelo Anthony. The Mavericks were optimistic about the way the meetings went in a report from the Dallas Morning News‘ Eddie Sefko.

Well now there is a report Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that Anthony’s visit with the Mavericks was all a charade.

Why Anthony would feel the need to use the Mavericks doesn’t seem to make sense. If he had no interest what so ever at all, he still had visits with the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets and the Los Angles Lakers you don’t need to throw the Mavericks into the mix to make the Knicks jealous, or force their hand.

Now Anthony might have had very little interested and decided to listen to the Mavericks out of curiosity, or to see how they matched up against other offers. But the whole visit being a “charade” seems unlikely.
