Not everyone is talking the failed Melo talks in stride though, as one unnamed official is spouting off to the Fort Worth Star Telegram’s Dwain Price. According to Price, a source told him that the meeting with Melo and the Mavs was nothing but a charade, which pretty much ends any hope the Mavs had of landing Melo.
The meeting with the Mavericks lasted approximately as long as the one he conducted with the Los Angeles Lakers did and they’re now considered to be frontrunners to sign him. So to say that the meeting was a charade is to insult Anthony for even giving the Mavs the time of day.
Dallas was a long shot anyways to get Melo and they’re no longer in the conversation to get him. The Mavericks shouldn’t feel that bad though as the Houston Rockets gave what many lauded as some sort of super pitch to Melo and they’re no longer in the conversation either so it seems that you just can’t win if with Carmelo Anthony if you’re in Texas.
