Dallas Mavericks Rumors: Pau Gaol being eyed as backup option
By Josh Hill
The Dallas Mavericks are looking ways they can make sure a first round elimination doesn’t happen in the postseason again next year and that means trying to find the right free agent to add to the team.

Already the Mavs have swung and missed on Carmelo Anthony but in the meantime they’ve managed to look out for their own as Dirk Nowitzki and Devin Harris have been re-signed along with Tyson Chandler being re-acquired from the New York Knicks.
When it comes to free agent though, Mark Cuban is keeping options open and one of the directions he could go is to bring in Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol to play behind Dirk Nowitzki next season.
Gasol is weighing his options at the moment and there is plenty to think about. The Miami Heat remain interested in the Spanish big man as do the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls. He’d be taking a backup role in Dallas if he signed whereas the Bulls and Heat are likely offering starting roles on their team with the Knicks offering up the role of a second star.
Still, Gasol wants to win and he wants to be appreciated and there are few owners in the NBA that love their players like Mark Cuban does and that might be enough to convince Gasol to take a backup role if it means being loved by a team like no others have before.
