Greg Monroe rumors: Detroit Pistons, Monroe in talks
When former Miami Heat and Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy took over as head coach and president of the Detroit Pistons, there was no doubt there would be changes.

Van Gundy has already reached agreements with three free agents – former Los Angeles Lakers’ guard Jodie Meeks, former Washington Wizards’ swingman Cartier Martin and former Sacramento Kings’ center Aaron Gray.
Their biggest free agent, power forward Greg Monroe, remains a restricted free agent and like many others, is waiting for Miami Heat forward LeBron James and New York Knicks’ forward Carmelo Anthony to make their decisions before the rest of the dominoes can fall. Throughout the process, Van Gundy and Monroe have been in contact.
“We’re still in talks with Greg,” Van Gundy explained. “I really don’t know what else to say on that. We’re still in talks with Greg, we talk to him on a regular basis, we talk to his agent on a regular basis and there are so many things that can happen in those restricted free agent situations so obviously both sides want to get something that’s good for both sides.”
Van Gundy knows a return is no sure thing.
“We want Greg Monroe back, but it’s obviously got to be a mutual thing, too,” Van Gundy said.
In the end, it will be business decision for both parties.
““It comes down to the business part of the game, that’s what it comes down to. I think that’s always a different thing than just the coaching and playing side. There is a business part of it and that’s where we are right now and those things are a big part of it.”
The Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, Orlando Magic, Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards have all been connected to Monroe.
Monroe put up 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 65.7% from the free throw line last season.
