The MLB trade deadline is just around the corner and that means we’re likely going to be hearing a slew of rumors that range from being pretty plausible to completely ridiculous. When it comes to the Phillies trading Chase Utley, most of those rumors fall under the category of complete ridiculous but we’ve learned to never say never again in the MLB.

More from Baltimore Orioles

According to CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman, the Philadelphia Phillies do not want to trade Chase Utley and he doesn’t want to be traded but there could be something cooking if the Toronto Blue Jays or Baltimore Orioles come calling.

"He doesn’t want to go and the Phillies don’t want to trade him. Would help the Jays and maybe the Orioles. Big, big long shot."

A long shot is a nice way of putting it as the Phillies are extremely unlikely to trade Utley unless they get a deal they absolutely cannot refuse. That’s not something that either the Blue Jays nor Orioles have shown a willingness to do as they’ve been reluctant to throw in certain pieces on trades and have missed out on players so far.

Still, the trade deadline is an interesting time of year where anything can happen. A trade of Chase Utley is not likely to happen but there could be a series of events that unfold where such a scenario is a reality and if that turns out to be the case then we can look at Toronto and Baltimore as likely suspects in making it all happen.
