The Dallas Mavericks have come to terms on a deal with restricted free agent Chandler Parsons that will pay the forward $45 million throughout the next three seasons, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

Because of Parsons’ restricted status, the Houston Rockets will have three days to match the Mavericks’ deal after the receive the offer sheet.

Parsons is coming off the best season of his career last season with the Rockets. He averaged 16.6 points (47.2 percent shooting from the field and 37.0 percent shooting from three), 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

The move is a smart deal for Dallas regardless of how this plays out. Either they get a great talent like Parsons to play alongside Dirk Nowitzki throughout the final few years of Dirk’s prime or they make Houston match and force them to pay a non-superstar $15 million annually. It’s worth nothing that the Mavericks would be paying Parsons $5 million more annually than they are paying Nowitzki after the Dallas legend signed a $30 million deal over three years earlier in free agency.

Stein has more details on the Parsons contract:

"Sources say Parsons’ deal is likely to possess a player option after the second season — which could make Parsons a free agent in the summer of 2016 alongside star Rockets center Dwight Howard — and a hefty trade kicker."

Parsons was drafted in the second rounds of the 2011 draft by the Rockets.
