San Antonio Spurs, Gregg Popovich agree to contract extension
By Josh Hill
The San Antonio Spurs have had a quiet NBA offseason but the moves they’ve made have been sonic booms compared to what other teams are doing with their money. After locking down Boris Diaw and Patty Mills to excellent team-friendly contracts, the Spurs have extended head coach Gregg Popovich.

According to a statement released from the San Antonio Spurs, the team has agreed to a contract extension with head coach Gregg Popovich. Adrian Wojnarowski not only passes that information along but also notes that Popovich is and has been open to coaching for up to another half decade.
There have been good coaches in the NBA the past 15 y ears but there hasn’t been one as great as Popovich. The closest candidate is Phil Jackson, who carried over his success in the 90s with the Chicago Bulls to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2000s.
But there has been no bouncing around for Pop though, as he’s formed a core he loves in Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker and the four men have stuck together though a slew of winning seasons and NBA titles.
He may be the greatest coach alive today and he will no doubt go down as a top 5 all-time head coach when his career is done — but that thankfully won’t be for a few more years.
