The Houston Rockets needed to shed cap space to make sure they could offer Chris Bosh a max contract in the event that LeBron James left the Miami Heat to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to Bill Oram from the Orange County Register, Lin isn’t yet back from his trip to Asia but his agent has relayed word that he’s thrilled to have been traded to the Lakers and to a situation where he’ll be appreciated and valued.

It’s a move that makes a ton of sense for all parties involved as the Rockets get the cap space they need to sign Bosh and match Chandler Parsons’ max offer sheet from the Dallas Mavericks. It’s a deal that will also be under a microscope for the Lakers as it’s the biggest deal they’ve made in a while and it’s something that may help get the team back on the right track.

At the end of the day, it’s a big move for the Lakers and one that has also brought about an additional first round draft pick for 2015 which is icing on top of the cake for the Los Angeles front office.
