LeBron James and Dan Gilbert ‘talked it out’ over letter
By Mike Dyce
LeBron James made his announcement that he was bringing his talents home from South Beach to the Cleveland Cavaliers. One of the big questions was how he could return to Cleveland after how he was treated leaving, the burning of jerseys, the booing and that infamous letter from owner Dan Gilbert.
Those incidents made LeBron James want to discuss coming home to his family. That coincides with reports that the letter played a role though possibly not to the extreme as reported, and that he wanted to discuss his decision.
James ultimately decided to come back to Cleveland and said he and Gilbert have worked out their issues regarding said letter.
“To make the move I needed the support of my wife and my mom, who can be very tough. The letter from Dan Gilbert, the booing of the Cleveland fans, the jerseys being burned — seeing all that was hard for them. My emotions were more mixed,” James told Sports Illustrated. “It was easy to say, “OK, I don’t want to deal with these people ever again.” But then you think about the other side. What if I were a kid who looked up to an athlete, and that athlete made me want to do better in my own life, and then he left? How would I react?”
And about that letter, James said: “I’ve met with Dan, face-to-face, man-to-man. We’ve talked it out. Everybody makes mistakes. I’ve made mistakes as well. Who am I to hold a grudge?”
