At the time it looked like Wiggins would become one of the big building blocks in Cleveland to go along with Kyrie Irving, Tristan Thompson, and others. But with the news that James is coming home, the Cavaliers do not have to think about rebuilding anymore. They can think about winning now, and that might change the future for Wiggins.
The logical rumor that has followed is that the team will trade Wiggins to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love. That move might make sense, but for now the people around Wiggins do not believe he will be traded.
According to Marc Spears of Yahoo:
These things could change quickly, of course. For one thing, James did not mention Wiggins in his letter about returning to Cleveland while he did mention other players. And as the free agent dominoes fall around the league and the remaining free agents land on their respective teams, the Cavaliers might decide to get serious about a trade like this one.
Such a deal would land James with a fellow superstar in Love and a guy who would fit well with him and Irving. It would then send Wiggins to a situation as a rookie where he would be the franchise player around whom the Timberwolves would try to build a contending team. That is reportedly the demand that the ‘Wolves would make in a Love deal, so it will be interesting to see if these talks take shape.
