Dwyane Wade: Where should he go after LeBron split?
By Bryce Olin
New York Knicks
This is a pipe dream. The Knicks don’t have the cap space to make a move on Wade. For the record, I don’t have any sources telling me the Knicks are even an option. Wade and the Knicks together make sense, though.
Obviously, the appeal of New York is what I think Wade could consider. Wade lives that Hollywood/New York lifestyle already. Why not take his off-the-court game to the next level? That’s possible in New York, and in Miami, too, of course. There’s just more in New York.
As far as a basketball fit, I really like Wade in a triangle offense, which the Knicks are going to be using next season with Phil Jackson running the team from behind the scenes. The triangle could bring an extra life to Wade, like a 1-up mushroom from Mario. With all the injury trouble Wade’s had, he needs a player like Carmelo Anthony, if he returns to the Knicks, to take the weight off his shoulders, a la what LeBron did for him this season. At this point of his career, Wade can’t be the guy anymore. He’s a realistic second option on a good team. That’s exactly what the Knicks need… among other things.
The Knicks are deep at shooting guard, but you can never have enough scoring in the NBA. Plus, a few years of Wade would give guys like Cleanthony Early, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Iman Shumpert more time to develop or be traded for other pieces.
This scenario is extremely unlikely, but I like the idea of Anthony and Wade playing together.
