According to Sean Deveney from The Sporting News, there is major and very serious interest from the Dallas Mavericks and Charlotte Hornets in Stephenson.
"According to the source, the remaining serious suitors for Stephenson are expected to be Charlotte, Dallas — if and when the Rockets match the Mavs’ offer sheet for Chandler Parsons — and Indiana."
While Deveney doesn’t go as far as to say it, this all implies that a bidding war could errupt between two teams desperate for a star guard to help lead them. The Mavericks will likely have plenty left in the slush fund following the Houston Rockets matching the offer sheet out for Chandler Parsons and the Hornets are just crazy at the moment and are looking to add a guard in as aggressive a manner as needed.
Stephenson is a hot name now that LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony are off the market and with Pau Gasol, Luol Deng and others lining up deals for themselves, Stephenson seems to be set up to be the next big thing on the market. That doesn’t mean he’ll get the attention that LeBron or Melo got, but this is a sign that the free agent pipeline is once again flowing with rumors galore.
