Los Angeles has made upgrades to its roster but also to it’s coaching staff however the most likely free agent prize they were eying has decided to sign elsewhere — even if that wasn’t his first choice.
The Washington Wizards shocked everyone on Saturday night by signing Paul Pierce to a two-year deal but TNT’s David Aldridge notes that Washington wasn’t Pierce’s first choice as he preferred to sign with the Clippers to reunite with head coach Doc Rivers.
Of course, this shouldn’t be misconstrued into Pierce being unhappy to sign with the Wizards because there was nothing forcing him to take the deal. Rather, this just shows that there was an attempt made by the Clippers to reunite the two former Boston Celtics but nothing was able to be pulled together.
Money was likely the issue here, but Washington is actually a pretty cool fit for Pierce who can now help make sure that the Wizard take strides in 2014-15 and don’t regress on the progress made last season.
