Greg Monroe rumors: Pistons looking for a sign-and-trade?
Once former Miami Heat and Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy was named head coach and president of the Detroit Pistons, questions about the future of big man Greg Monroe rose to the forefront.

Monroe is a restricted free agent and now that most of the top-tier free agents have found homes, Monroe will likely become a popular target. With a budding star at center in Andre Drummond and forward Josh Smith under contract for the next three seasons, that could spell the end of Monroe’s tenure in Detroit (although Van Gundy would probably prefer to move Smith and his massive deal).
Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes the Pistons may be looking to move Monroe in a sign-and-trade.
"Nobody knows whether you’re going to stay in Detroit, Greg, except you and your agent. I suspect you’re on your way out, in spite of the way Stan Van Gundy has talked you up. I think SVG wants to do a sign-and-trade and would like to get as much as possible back for you, with the threat that if you sign an offer sheet outright with a team, he’ll simply match and look to trade you at the deadline or next summer."
The Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, Orlando Magic, Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards have all been connected to Monroe. The Pistons, however, remain in contact with Monroe.
Monroe put up 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 65.7% from the free throw line last season
