America wants to know who will be starting the MLB All-Star Game Tuesday night at Target Field in Minneapolis. Right now all we have is a vague hint that the National League starter will probably be the St. Louis Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright.

More from MLB All-Star Game

Probably.

Rick Hummel of the Post-Dispatch followed the trail of bread crumbs left by NL manager Mike Matheny and Wainwright himself.

Matheny said his choice of starter was “down to two guys.” Eliminating pitchers who’ve been replaced and/or can’t pitch Tuesday because of the timing of their last start, you’re left with Clayton Kershaw and Adam Wainwright as the two guys.

Matheny dropped more clues when talking about Wainwright after his last start on Saturday (via the Post-Dispatch):

"Everything looked like it’s good today. Everybody is very happy with how he bounced back and how he feels."

Could Wainwright pitch an inning or two on Tuesday?

"[Tuesday] is his day to throw on the side anyhow."

Wainwright himself fueled further speculation with this remark:

"I came through (Saturday) fine. I think the plan is for me to pitch. I’ll tell you when the manager has decided and officially has made word."

To sum up: Wainwright is one of only two guys available to start Tuesday for the NL. He feels good after his Saturday start. Tuesday is his regular day to throw a side session anyhow. Wainwright said he thinks the plan is for him to pitch.

Okay, so Adam Wainwright is probably starting the All-Star game for the NL. We’ll let you know on the AL starter.
