Panthers, DE Greg Hardy are unlikely to reach a long-term deal before Tuesday’s deadline
By Mike Dyce
The Carolina Panthers slapped defensive end Greg Hardy with the franchise tag in the offseason to prevent him from hitting the free agent market. Initially it looked like the Panthers were going to be able to get a long-term deal done to avoid Hardy playing the 2014 season under the gaudy cap numbers.
Then of course came Hardy’s arrest and impending trial for a domestic violence dispute. The Panthers haven’t been able to work out a deal with Hardy in the mean time and it is now expected that they won’t get a deal done before the deadline on Tuesday.
Hardy will make $13.116 million during the 2014 season under the tag in that instance, a lofty payday. You have to wonder if the Panthers were thinking of a smaller dollar amount after the domestic violence incident.
