Carolina Panthers defensive end has bigger problems to worry about than reaching an extension after being tagged with the franchise designation by the club earlier this season.

More from Carolina Panthers

Hardy was in a Charlotte court on Tuesday and plead not guilty to the charges he communicating threats and assaulted his girlfriend Nicole Holder.

The testimony from Holder was chilling as she recalled that May night when she feared for her life at the hands of the Panthers defensive end.

“He looked me in my eyes and he told me he was going to kill me. I had never been so scared in my life,” Holder said, via the Charlotte Observer. “I was so scared I wanted to die. When he loosened his grip slightly I said just, ‘Do it. Kill me.'”

The altercation began after a night of drinking and an agitated Hardy threw her onto a futon that had four assault rifles on it after he “backhanded her and threw her around.”

Hardy faces up to 60 days in jail if found guilty of the domestic violence charge of assaulting a female.

With Hardy in court, he and the Panthers were unable to come to terms on an extension (smart move considering his legal trouble) and will play the 2014 season on a one-year deal worth $13.1 million.

Hardy is still subject to a potential suspension from Roger Goodell for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
