After Derek Jeter scored on a Mike Trout triple, Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera drove Adam Wainright to deep left field for the first home run of the All-Star Game this year. The ball didn’t carry like some of the blasts we saw at the Home Run Derby last night, but Caberea still managed to murder the ball and get Trout in for a 3-0 lead on the American League side of things.
Cabrera is arguably the best hitter in the game today and of the last five or so years. He’s a Triple Crown winner, he’s consistently hitting well and he’s one of the most feared bats in the Majors. The All_Star Game is still considered by some to be a glorified schoolyard game, but Cabrera takes the long ball seriously and clobbered his first at-bat into the stands like the fans in attendance expected.
