Triple-A All-Star Game final score: International League defeats Pacific Coast League 7-3
By Hayden Kane
The timing of the Triple-A All-Star Game can be kind of awkward. That reality was on display once again in Wednesday night’s game as the International League defeated Pacific Coast League by a final score of 7-3.
Sure, it makes sense that the game takes place the day after the Major League All-Star Game. We are all in the spirit of watching All-Stars, after all, and there isn’t much else happening in the sports world.

It is deep enough into the season, however, that you run the risk of not having the top talent represented. Whether it is teams in playoff contention or not, the middle of July is deep enough into the season that top prospects who are selected to play in the game might have gotten called up to the big leagues. Consider Oscar Taveras of the St. Louis Cardinals as one such example.
Some top names might have been missing, but Wednesday night’s Triple-A All-Star Game wasn’t short on talent. Start with top Los Angeles Dodgers’ prospect Joc Pederson. Whether he appears with the Dodgers or is included in a trade for David Price or Cole Hamels, Pederson could be a guy who has an impact on the big league level this season. Playing on the losing side of things for the PCL, Pederson delivered an impressive home run.
As for the winning side of things, a number of players stood out for the International League. Felix Perez of the Cincinnati Reds organization had two hits, including a triple, and two driven in. Jhonatan Solano, a catcher in the Washington Nationals’ organization, blasted a two-run home run to contribute to the cause.
As for pitching, one guy worth mentioning is Liam Hendriks. A top prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, a guy who has seen big league action this season, and another name that scrawls across blockbuster trade rumors, Hendriks struck out an impressive four hitters in just two innings of work.
On a night when they had the stage all to themselves, these players gave us a glimpse of the best things to come for many organizations in an entertaining showcase of young talent.
