As the days in July pass, the time for the Tampa Bay Rays to move starting ace David Price are dwindling. There have been some teams that have expressed some significant interest in the star, but they don’t have the package that the Rays are reportedly looking for, which is prospects. But could the St. Louis Cardinals have what they’re looking for?
According to Richard Justice over at MLB.com, he considers the National League West power the favorites to ultimately add Price to their staff, because they could put together something the Rays are looking for.
"Favorite: Cardinals. They’re one of the few clubs with the Minor League depth to swing this kind of deal, and even though pitching isn’t their No. 1 need, the opportunity to add a Price would dramatically alter the pennant race."
Pitching might not be their top need at the moment, as Justice pointed out, but he could prove more than valuable as they make their run in October at getting back into the World Series. Pairing up Price on that rotation with Adam Wainwright could be just deadly enough to capture them that title that eluded them last season.

As the second half of the season gets underway, and the Rays continue to slide down the standings, don’t be surprised if phone calls between they and the Cardinals become more prevalent as July 31 approaches.
Again, the Cards are one of the few teams that have exactly what the Rays are looking for in all of this.
