The Los Angeles Dodgers are poised to make a major run in the second half of the season, and they could be targeting a little more bullpen help on the trade market. Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles says that according to baseball sources the Dodgers are expected to pursue Philadelphia Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon.

After a rough 2013 campaign, the 33-year-old Papelbon has been resurgent in 2014, notching 22 saves for the Phillies with a 1.21 ERA and dominating 0.857 WHIP. Papelbon would not only boost the Dodgers’ bullpen, he would bring a much-needed infusion of personality to the squad.
The Dodgers are just so colorless and lacking in quirky characters. They could really use a guy like Papelbon to liven up things around that place. That Yasiel Puig guy? So bland.
In all seriousness, you have to say Papelbon would be an intriguing addition to the Dodgers. Not only does he have big time post season experience, but he’s actually pitching at a high level this year. The Dodgers don’t need to add much to become huge World Series contenders, but they should at least bring in a couple more pieces to get them over the top.
Papelbon’s move west would also continue the westward shift of baseball this year. East Coast ball has become totally dead with the Yankees, Phillies, Red Sox and Mets struggling. In the west you have the Dodgers, Angels, A’s and Giants all killing it with the Mariners coming on.
West Coast ball is what it’s all about this season.
