Marc Gasol is one of the best big men in the game today and he’s following very much in the footsteps of his brother Pau Gasol in being a key cog on a contending team. But Gasol is a free agent next summer and the Grizzlies are hoping he doesn’t totally follow in Pau’s footsteps and end up leaving the team for someone else.
NBA insider Moke Hamilton is here though to provide some peace of mind for the fans in Memphis. While it’s hardly a concrete report, Moke takes a stab at the rumors Marc Gasol will be leaving the Grizzlies by listing reasons he won’t.
No hope required. It’s up to him. I think he stays put. RT @saquino34: Is Marc Gasol is quietly hoping to hit free agency to join #Knicks?

For those hoping for Marc Gasol, keep in mind: he moved from Spain to Memphis in 2001. MEM is HOME for him, AND they have Bird rights.

Marc Gasol is 29 years old and is considered to be one of the top three? five? Center in the league. Memphis would be crazy to let him go.

Moke is right on with this assessment of Gasol’s situation. The bottom line with a lot of foreign players is that their first NBA teams are usually the first cities they’re visiting in America for an extended period of time so it does indeed become like home.
Just look at how much Ricky Rubio is remaining loyal the Timberwolves when Minneapolis couldn’t be more the antithesis of Spain which means Gasol staying in Memphis over a market like New York or Los Angeles is something that Grizzlies fans should feel confident about.
