With the second half of the Major League Baseball season set to get back underway on Friday following the All-Star break, the realization has begun to set in that the days of watching Derek Jeter play baseball are dwindling. On Friday, that reality became even more prevalent as the New York Yankees announced the official date for the Jeter retirement ceremony this September.
The team released this brief statement via their official website on Friday:
"The Yankees will hold a special pregame ceremony to honor the CAREER of Yankees captain Derek Jeter on Sunday, September 7. All fans in attendance will receive a limited-edition commemorative coin that will recognize the occasion.Further details about the ceremony will be announced at a later date."
As we saw during the recent All-Star break, the retirement of one of the best to ever play the game has drawn attention from all the fan bases around the country. We saw that with the huge reaction he received from the folks in Minnesota this past Tuesday night.

However, the ceremony in the Bronx will be drastically different.
On that day, fans in the Bronx will say goodbye to their captain, someone that they have claimed as their own since 1995. This has the opportunity to be one of the more emotional retirement ceremonies that anyone has seen in quite some time.
