San Francisco Giants sign several draft picks to deals
By Jake Misener
According to multiple media reports, the San Francisco Giants made headway late Thursday night, signing two of its draft picks to deals.
San Francisco had been one of the most notable teams to have not yet signed its early-round picks, but Thursday’s moves, as noted, took two more names off that list. Teams have until just 5 p.m. ET Friday to agree to terms with their draft picks and several notable names are still yet to sign with their respective clubs.

Among those yet to sign include the top overall pick in this June’s draft, Brady Aiken, whose camp has been going back-and-forth with the Houston Astros over the health of his pitching elbow. The organization has been pushing a lower-slot deal over concerns with his elbow, while agent Casey Close, who is advising Aiken, believes the team is taking advantage of the situation to save money for other picks it still needs to sign, including fifth-rounder Jacob Nix.
Several other first-rounders, including Sean Newcomb and Erick Fedde, are also still without a deal. Fedde was taken 18th overall by the Washington Nationals. Newcomb was selected 15th overall by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and is said to be nearing a deal, according to the Orange County Register.
"Newcomb, a left-hander from the University of Hartford, was the 15th overall pick in last month’s draft. The recommended slot value for that pick is $2.475 million, and it is believed Newcomb will sign for approximately that amount."
