The Chicago Cubs already had a bit of a contentious situation on their hands when they unveiled a bear mascot this season. Some people were not pleased to see a silly mascot for such a storied franchise.

Where do you even start, then, with a fake Cubs mascot that has been going around charging people for pictures and getting into bar fights? That is exactly the situation that the Cubs find themselves dealing with as they confront “Billy Cub”, and they are responding with a lawsuit against the aforementioned fake mascot.

According to the Chicago Sun Tribune, these activities started with normal mascot-like behavior:

"The suit claims Billy Cub is engaging in “mascot-like activities” near Wrigley Field, such as dancing with fans or posing for photos and then trying to solicit fees or tips."

At that point they might have had people fooled, but then the behavior devolved to actions of the “unsavory” variety:

"The character also has made “rude, profane and derogatory remarks and gesticulations to patrons, ticket holders, fans or other individuals located in the area of Wrigley Field,” according to the suit.Billy Cub also was caught on video apparently punching a man in John Barleycorn, a bar at 3524 N. Clark St., on April 5, the suit claims. A video uploaded to YouTube shows a man — whom the suit identifies as Patrick Weier — dressed in the Billy Cub costume, who punches a man for taking off his bear head."

These guys had their fun while it lasted, but now they will have to go to court to answer for the actions of Billy Cub. Rightfully so. Unsavory might be a mild way to describe people who dress up in a fake mascot costume and then proceed to curse at and punch people.
