Giants’ John Mara: Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning are hungry

The New York Giants struggled to an 0-6 start during the 2013 season. They managed to get things turned around to finish a respectable 7-9, but they missed the playoffs for the second season in a row.

Giants owner John Mara won’t say that head coach Tom Coughlin is on the hot seat, but did say he isn’t in control of leaving on his own terms.

Mara did say that Coughlin is hungry to turn around the Giants.

“I think he’s as hungry as ever … particularly after our team going 7-9,” Mara said, via the New York Post. “I think he’s as driven as ever and is as excited as ever to get back to work.”

And what about quarterback Eli Manning?

“Yes, without question. He probably wouldn’t admit this, but I think he was probably stung by all the criticism last year, and he’s got a lot of pride, has had too much success in the past, and I think you’re going to see him have a big year.”

Mara also went on to say that the Giants new offense, under a new coordinator, has re-energized Manning heading into the 2014 campaign.
