Sparks general manager and executive vice president Penny Toler will now add another title with the team as she takes over head-coaching duties for the remainder of the season. Let’s hope Jerry Jones isn’t paying attention.
The news of Ross’ departure from the team was first reported by ESPNW.
“I’d like to thank Carol for her contributions to the Sparks organization, team and Los Angeles community,” Toler said in a press release. “Carol is a tremendous coach, but we felt it was time to bring in a different energy to this team. Decisions like this are never easy, and we wish Carol the best.”
One of Ross’ assistants, 2015 Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Gail Goestenkors, has also resigned from her role with the team.
According to the report, Goestenkors had an opportunity to remain with Los Angeles, but she ultimately decided to walk out the door.
