The Dallas Mavericks had big plans for the 2014 offseason and although they couldn’t really get into the mix for New York Knicks’ forward Carmelo Anthony (although he did visit the Mavericks) or other All-Star level players, they did agree to a deal with one of their top targets, stealing forward Chandler Parsons away from the rival Houston Rockets with a three-year, $46 million deal.

More from Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks hoped to retain some of their own key veteran free agents as well, but guard Vince Carter has signed with the Memphis Grizzlies and Marion is a “long shot” to return.

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes Marion is not getting the kind of offers he hoped for and will likely not be back with the Dallas Mavericks.

"Good question. His free agency has been a real head-scratcher. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s a case of him and his agent asking for more than teams think he’s worth. About a week or so ago, Donnie Nelson referred to it as a real long shot that he’d be back with the Mavs, even though Dallas still has its room exception available. That suggests that he’s looking for significantly more than that. Ultimately, he’ll have to settle for something closer to that before too many teams use up their remaining cap space and exceptions, or he may wind up having to take an even bigger discount."

Marion went 10.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 48.2% from the field,  35.8% from the field and 78.5% from the free throw line.
