The New York Yankees are after some big trades this summer as they continue to try and contend for the AL East crown over the likes of the Blue Jays in their own division and the Tigers, Angels and others in the American League.

More from MLB Trade Rumors

New York already landed Brandon McCarthy from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a trade and are now finalizing a deal to acquire a key infielder to help shore-up the lineup and add some strength to the depth of the roster.

According to Jack Curry from YES Network, the Yankees and Padres are finalizing a deal that will land them third baseman Chase Headley in a trade.

The deal is a short term rental if there ever was one as Headley is a free agent at the end of the season and the Yankees aren’t even guaranteed to be contending in September. Still, it’s a power move to stay in the hunt and it’s something New York needed to do.
