Iowa’s Brandon Scherff likely would have been a top-15 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft had the Hawkeyes’ left tackle declared for the draft after his junior season. Part of what makes him such a dominant offensive lineman was on display in the weight room today in an incredible feat of strength and power.

Here is Scherff hang cleaning 443 pounds not once, not twice but three times.

The video comes courtesy of Iowa strength and conditioning coach Chris Doyle who tweeted the link to the video on Wednesday morning.

Last summer, Iowa released a video of another Scherff weightlifting session that saw him hang-clean 410 pounds three times, so the additional time in the weight room has seen the 6-6, 320-pound tackle increase that by 23 pounds. No small feat.

Like some other notable Iowa offensive linemen, Scherff played his high school football at another position. Would you believe he played quarterback at Denison high school at 280 pound sophomore?!

He shifted to the line as a junior and the move could result in him being the fourth Hawkeye to be taken in the first round pick since 2004, joining joining Robert Gallery, Bryan Bulaga and Riley Reiff.

Gallery was the No. 2 pick by the Oakland Raiders and NFL Media Analyst Gil Brandt believes Scherff could top Gallery and be a possible No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Offensive tackles haven’t been popular picks as the No. 1 overall pick in recent years as only Eric Fisher in 2013, Jake Long in 2008 and Orlando Pace in 1997 have been the first pick since 1968, but Scherff could be the rare tackle to buck that trend based on this incredible display of strength and power.

Now too mention his strength translates to the football field where he was an All-Big Ten selection a year ago after burying defensive linemen and linebackers for Iowa.
