Tavon Austin: The Rams’ playbook looked like Spanish to me as a rookie
By Jack Crosby
The St. Louis Rams have one of the most explosive player in the NFL in Tavon Austin. At times during his rookie season in 2013, you could see the flashes of greatness. But at the same time, he looked lost out there on the field.

Well maybe that was due to the fact that Austin had a bit of a difficult time last year picking up his new playbook. Actually, that’s not a maybe because this is something that he admitted recently.
According to an interview he did with the Associated Press, Austin readily admitted that the Rams’ playbook looked like “Spanish” to him.
“I didn’t really know what was going on,” Austin said, according to The Associated Press. “Everything looked like Spanish and sounded like Spanish to me.”
But luckily for Austin and the Rams, after spending one year in the system of offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, he has everything soaked in this year.
“I understand the plays, the depth, the routes, the splits and everything,” Austin said. “I just feel good that I can make some plays. Definitely, the game’s slowed down for me.”
In 13 games last season, Austin finished up with 418 yards receiving and four touchdowns, while adding in 151 yards rushing and another score.
With him having the playbook down pat this season, though, those numbers will be expected to inflate just a little bit.
