The Philadelphia Phillies have been at the heart of a lot of trade rumors this season and a new name has been added to the list of players the team could end up trading this summer.

Ryan Howard just hasn’t been the player he once was a few years ago and his setbacks and poor play have forced the Phillies to try and end their relationship with him by trading him away before the deadline arrives at the end of the month.

According to Jon Heyman from CBS Sports, the Phillies ae trying hard to trade Ryan Howard and are willing to eat a majority of his $70 million salary to get a deal done.

"The Phillies are said by rival executives to be working hard to find a suitor for Ryan Howard, presumably in the American League.Word from competing execs is that Philly would be willing to eat much or most of the $70 million remaining on his deal. On Wednesday, news leaked that the Phillies have considered whether just to cut Howard after the year. It’s hard to see how that could help his trade value, which has to be severely limited as it is."

Howard’s fall from baseball greatness has been sad to watch as his potential has been wasted by injuries and other setbacks that have effected his game. Unlike most players who let off field issues bog them down, Howard has just caught bad break after bad break and is now in a position where the Phillies will eat his salary to just move on from him and clear out his roster spot.
