Philadelphia Phillies rumors: Ryan Howard to be released?
By Jack Crosby
The Philadelphia Phillies, nor their fans, have been particularly happy with slugger Ryan Howard as of late, and deservedly so. Well for those folks that are unhappy with the former star’s production, have no fear, because the team is apparently discussing the possibility of releasing him in a few months once the season comes to a close.
According to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly, with it near impossible trade him, the team has discussed the possibility of cutting their losses after the season concludes and moving on without him.
"Multiple sources say the team has also discussed moving on without Howard. The team has floated his name in trade talks but Howard is owed the remainder of $25 million for this season and $60 million over the next two seasons. No team is interested in taking on that amount of money — or even part of it because the Phils know they’d have to eat a large portion of Howard’s salary — for a declining player."
Again, as Salisbury stated, it’s impossible to find a team that will take on his contract, so a release really is their only option at this point, if they genuinely do want to part ways with him.

This season, Howard is batting .224 with 15 home runs and 57 RBI. However, his 118 strikeouts are tied for third most in the majors, something that fans are getting a bit sick and tired of seeing over the years.
Apparently, the Phils are too.
