Steve Smith offended by Panthers, happy with Ravens
Steve Smith has been in the NFL for 13 years, but he had never left the Carolina Panthers. Now at Ravens training camp, he seems to have some extra motivation.
“Honestly, when everything went down (in Carolina during his release), there was a part of (me) that felt offended,” Smith said, via CSN Baltimore. “But at the end of the day, I sat there and thought about it. Everybody makes decisions based on whatever it is, and it’s not my place to say it’s justified or unjustified. My motivation is to go out here, make plays, have fun and really enjoy the journey.”
Smith said he’s not worried about adjusting to his latest quarterback, Joe Flacco. It could be a situation like Anquon Boldin’s last season, where a veteran wide receiver moves to a new team, but copies his production from the previous team. For Steve Smith, it’s just a game of pitch and catch — chemistry has nothing to do with it.
“Do you want me to lie or tell you the truth?” Smith said. “”The truth honestly for me – I’ve been catching passes for quarterbacks for a lot of years, and I’ve been running routes for a lot of years. If you throw me the ball, there’s no chemistry. You throw me the ball, it’s catchable, I’m going to snag it.”
On a less serious note, Steve Smith is excited to be working with Torrey Smith, but I can’t let him get away with his new nickname for the tandem.
“I think you can call us, ‘The Law Firm: Smith, Smith & Associates,’’’ Smith said. “I’m pretty quick-witted, so I did actually come up with that.”
That’s Benjarvus Green-Ellis’ nickname, Steve! The Law Firm. Oh well, if the duo is productive enough, something new will come along.
