Jay Bruce got booed last night after striking out in the ninth inning.  Today, Reds fans were singing a different tune:  BRUUUUUUCE!

More from Cincinnati Reds

Why?  This probably had something to do with it:

That’s the way to turn a fan base around.  Who knew Cincinnati fans could be so fickle?

Aside from throwing snowballs during a Bengals game in 1989, they seem to be a pretty amiable bunch.  And to their credit, they stopped once Bengals coach Sam Wyche made an announcement over the PA system that “you don’t live in Cleveland, you live in Cincinnati”

When you think of Jay Bruce, his defense is not usually the first thing that comes to mind.  He is more known for his bat.  That said, he has always been an above average defender.

Bryce Harper must have missed that memo.  He had no idea that Bruce could track that ball down.  Harper was picked off of first base on the out.

The Reds defense is on display so far tonight.  They can take all of the credit for the game still being scoreless in the fourth inning.

Aside from the double play by Bruce, Todd Frazier made a good stop at first base.  Then there is this grab by Billy Hamilton:

Quite a day for the Reds defense so far!
