Jake Peavy trade rumors: Mystery NL team close to landing Red Sox pitcher
By Dan Zinski
The Boston Red Sox are looking to sell off some of their veterans, and reportedly Jake Peavy is one of the guys on the block. In fact, a Peavy deal could be in the works even as we speak. Per Jen Royle of the Boston Herald, the Red Sox are close to dealing Peavy to an unnamed National League team.

All Royle knows is that the NL team in question is not the St. Louis Cardinals. Speculation is now centering around the Milwaukee Brewers and San Francisco Giants.
The 33-year-old Peavy has had a rough year in Boston, going 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA in 124 innings. Despite this, Peavy should still have value as a solid veteran arm on a contending team down the stretch.
The Giants could be looking around for another pitcher due to uncertainty over the health of starter Matt Cain, who has recently been dealing with an elbow problem. The Brewers are in a dogfight in the NL Central and probably need one more strong arm to fend off the Cardinals and Pirates.
We don’t know which team will land Peavy, but we do know it now looks almost certain that Peavy is headed out of Boston. The Red Sox may also shop starting pitcher Jon Lester before it’s over.
Not the way Red Sox fans envisioned their season playing out. They’re used to Boston being buyers at the deadline, not sellers.
