NBA Free Agency 2014: Shawn Marion likely to leave Dallas
With the additions of Chandler Parsons, Al-Fariq Aminu, and Richard Jefferson, it’s becoming more unlikely that Shawn Marion returns to the Dallas Mavericks. And instead of living in a clouded atmosphere, the NBA champion forward is aware of that reality.
"“It was memorable, baby,” Marion said. “It’s hard to say it wasn’t fun. We had a great run and made the playoffs four of five years and won a championship. We set goals every year, and most years we reached them. And to win a championship, it was unbelievable. I wish we could have made a couple more runs at it, but it is what it is.”It’s become clear that Marion — if he continues playing — won’t be doing so in Dallas. That’s what happens."
Marion free agency has been a bit quiet. There have been little reports on what he plans to do from here on out, whether retiring or continuing his career, but in the interview Marion made it know that he won’t chase money if it means he lands in a situation that is uncomfortable.

“If I see something really comfortable, then I’ll do it,” Marion said. “Right now, I’m just staying with my [newborn] son and relaxing. It’s only July, man. We got two more months. We’ll just wait and see how it works out.”
If Marion wants to continue his basketball career, it’ll likely be with a championship contender. It was reported earlier in free agency that the Miami Heat were interested in the four-time All-Star, but with Luol Deng in the fold that interest may have waned. Depending on the price, Marion could be a great fit on the top three teams in the Western Conference (San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles C.)
In 15 years, Marion has spent time with the Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors, and Dallas Mavericks, averaging 15.8 points, 9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game in his career.
