It’s basically going to be what we saw at the 2012 London Olympics, only without the other events going on and the location changed to Spain, but for the most part this is the Olympics of basketball as national teams from around the world will be going at it to try and take home the World Cup.
Not every NBA player will be heading over to Spain though as in addition to Blake Griffin, Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love has dropped out of training camp in Las Vegas.
What this does is further rumors that Love is on the verge of being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, as his non-participation in Team USA’s World Cup journey is pretty transparent. It’s not a bad thing though, as the FIBA World Cup is like the Olympics, it isn’t the Olympics and Love is smart to not allow anything to jeopardize his chances of playing with LeBron James in Cleveland this upcoming season.
