The World Cup doesn’t kick off until August but already the team has lost two massive pillars in Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin and Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Kevin Love. Both players have dropped out of the World Cup and declined their offer to join the Team USA roster.
As a result, the team is now looking for players who can fill those holes left and so far there’s not much to offer other than forcing round pegs in to square holes.
The withdrawal of Kevin Love and Blake Griffin really hurts Team USA’s chances of winning the World Cup as it leaves the team with no huge threats at power forward. George and Parsons are small forwards, but they’re going to have to help fill in the gap at the four in order to make sure Team USA doesn’t have any glaring holes that a squad like Spain can pick apart in a World Cup Final.
