Many believe the Boston Celtics are looking to deal point guard Rajon Rondo but according to Mark Murphy of The Boston Herald, the Celtics are looking to pair Rondo with a star.

More from NBA

"That would be a rising star to pair with Rajon Rondo or, in the event of trading the point guard, another cornerstone player. You never say never with Ainge, and in an interesting reworking of fellow owner Wyc Grousbeck’s “fireworks” prediction, Pagliuca points to Ainge’s restless nature.“ ‘Fireworks’ means that Danny is fearless in trying to get something done,” Pagliuca said. “Wyc meant that there would be a lot of activity, and there’s still a lot of time to go. A lot of teams assess what they have and what they need after going through training camp.”"

Obviously, the Celtics’ first choice is Minnesota Timberwolves’ power forward Kevin Love, but they barely seem to be in the mix in anymore. The Cleveland Cavaliers can offer the last two number one overall picks, forward Anthony Bennett (2013) and swingman Andrew Wiggins (2014), the Golden State Warriors have a player the Timberwolves covet in guard Klay Thompson (but they haven’t made him available) and the Chicago Bulls are reportedly offering big man Taj Gibson and a pair of rookies, former Real Madrid forward Nikola Mirotić and former Creighton Blue Jays’ forward Doug McDermott.

Rondo was limited just 30 games while returning from his knee injury and averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He shot 40.3% from the field, 28.9% from beyond the arc and 62.7% from the free throw line.
