While turning the Louisville Cardinals around, head coach Charlie Strong made a habit of going into the talent-rich state of Florida and pulling out big time players with the most notable being Minnesota Vikings’ first round draft pick, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Safety Calvin Pryor, who the New York Jets selected in the first round, is also a Florida native.

More from College

Now that he is the head coach of the Texas Longhorns, many have wondered if we could expect the same or possibly even more from Strong. On Sunday, he proved nothing has changed – 4-Stat wide receiver John Burt gave his pledge to the Longhorns. The 6’3, 180-pounder attends Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Florida.

“I think Charlie Strong can win championships and I really think his philosophy can work at UT,”Burt told Inside Texas. “When my recruitment started, (UT) was always a team I wanted to get an offer from. I just like everything about the university.”

Having Chris Vaughn, the Longhorns’ secondary coach, special teams’ coach and a Tallahassee native really made Burt feel comfortable, which is one of the biggest reasons he pulled the trigger.

“Him being from here and playing ball here we connected on an emotional more than others,” Burt said of Vaughn, a Tallahassee native, moments after he pulled the trigger via 24/7 Sports. “Not that i didn’t connect with other coaches, but the emotional connection I had with Coach Vaughn was greater.”

Burt is ranked as the country’s 13th-best wide receiver prospect, the 22nd-best overall prospect in the state of Florida and the 127th-best prospect in the class of 2015, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings. Burt also holds offers from Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles, among others.
