David Ortiz thought he had put one over the fence against the Rays in Tampa Saturday but upon further review, no home run for Big Papi. Replay showed that a fan reached over the fence with his glove and caught the ball, resulting in a ground rule double.

The plot twist? The fan was wearing Red Sox gear.
Had the loyal Red Sox fan let the ball go, there’s a very good chance it would have hit the top of the fence and gone over for a home run. If you want to cut the fan a little slack, I suppose you could argue about the likelihood of the ball ending up in the seats.
Sure, there’s a chance Papi’s ball would have hit the top of the wall at such an angle as to bounce back into the field of play. I can’t find my protractor right now, so I can’t calculate how exactly that ball would have bounced.
The point is, if there’s even a tiny chance of that ball being a home run, then that fan is an idiot. Papi wanted to fight an official scorer in Boston who took a single away from him, so imagine what he wants to do with that Red Sox fan.
