The MLB Trade Deadline is right around the corner and as a result, more and more rumors are going to be kicked up as teams continue to try and find that missing piece to their roster.

More from Boston Red Sox

One team that has been an enigma at the deadline are the Boston Red Sox as they continue to appear to be both buyers and sellers this summer. Boston is sinking in the AL East, but they’re been more streaky than usual which is a sign they could get it together in the second half. That doesn’t make them any easier to understand from a trade perspective as on the one hand the team is dealing pieces like Jake Peavy to the San Francisco Giants — creating the illusion they’re selling — while on  the other hand the team is involved in rumors for Cole Hamels, Matt Kemp and Troy Tulowitzki.

Add Martin Prado to that list and mix him into to the Red Sox confusion, per Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

"A few teams, including the Red Sox, were contemplating him because he has the reputation of making a big impact with his energy, spirit, and ability. He’s also versatile enough to play the corner outfield spots and second base. It doesn’t appear the Diamondbacks are eager to deal him, but his name could pick up steam as the deadline nears."

This one all comes down to how willing the D-Backs are to trading Prado, which doesn’t seem to be very willing at the stage in the game. That could change, but the real story here is that the Red Sox continue to not know what they want to do at the deadline as they’re buyers on day and sellers the next.
