The New York Giants are putting a lot of stock in their running back group to perform this season as they implement the new offense run by Ben McAdoo. The key piece in all of this has been the health of starter David Wilson, which suffered a bit of a setback on Tuesday.
Wilson was forced out of practice on Tuesday with a neck burner, and head coach Tom Coughlin didn’t play it off as nothing to worry about, unfortunately. When asked about Wilson’s injury after practice, Coughlin came right out and called it an obvious setback for the third-year running back.
Coughlin said "We were all praying" there would be no setbacks with Wilson. This burner is a setback. #nyg

Wilson is the leader of a stable of running backs for the Giants this season that includes veterans Rashad Jennings and Peyton Hillis, as well as rookie Andre Williams.

But for as much as those guys were going to be a part of the offense, Wilson was expected to be the workhorse for this offense, even after he missed most of last season with a neck injury he suffered in October.
We’ll have to wait for more updates as the day and week go on, but obviously an injury to this part of Wilson’s body, given what happened last October, is not a good sign.
