The Boston Red Sox haven’t really decided if they’re going to be buyers or sellers in the final 48 hours of the MLB trade season as the deadline is approaching and Boston is still on the fence about a few different things.

One trade that has been discussed more and more as the deadline nears is one that sends Jon Lester to any number of destinations and prospects back to the Red Sox. Andrew Miller has been mentioned in the same light but so far there’s been a lot of talk and no deal made.
It’s looking like things might stay that way too.
According to Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com, the Red Sox have a less than 50 percent chance of trading Jon Lester or Andrew Miller before the trade deadline passes this week.
"A major league source with knowledge of Boston’s discussions said Monday night it is still “less than 50-50” that the Red Sox trade Lester, based on discussions to date. The same holds true, the source said, for lefty reliever Andrew Miller, although he expects that the offers for both pitchers will be sweetened as Thursday’s trade deadline draws closer."
This isn’t all that surprising as the Red Sox would love to hang onto Lester and work out a long term deal with him but if that can’t happen now then they’re clearly open to flipping him for a nice return before getting him back in the offseason. Lester has said that he wants to re-sign with the Red Sox this winter which means there’s little lose but also little to possibly gain by trading him away.
