The Miami Marlins are closing in, ever so slowly, on the NL East lead held by the Atlanta Braves and at the very least are trying to gun for a shot at the Wild Card this October.

All of that seems like a pipe dream when considering what a joke the Marlins are in both size ans stature, but it’s something that is motivating the front office to keep the matches in their pocket and the gasoline on the shelf as to not burn down this season and start
According to Buster Olney in his latest ESPN Insider-only blog post, the Marlins continue to lurk in the trade market and are trying to find starting pitching that can help them beyond just this season.
Something else that Olney points out is that back in 2003 the Marlins willed their way back into a postseason chase at the midseason point and wont he World Series with a rag-tag group of players that no one really though much of at the time. This seems to be a primary factor in why ownership isn’t budging on their stance that the team will not sell at the deadline.
That doesn’t mean we won’t see anything happen, but the Giancarlo Stanton rumors and all others seem to be nothing more than smoke and mirrors at this stage in the game.
