During last month’s NBA Draft, they dealt their best player, guard Arron Afflalo, to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for guard Evan Fournier and the 56th-overall pick in last month’s draft, which wound up being former Iowa Hawkeyes’ guard Roy Devyn Marble. In the draft, they selected former Arizona Wildcats’ forward Aaron Gordon with the fourth-overall selection and traded the rights to the 12th-overall selection, Croatian forward Dario Saric and a future pick to the Philadelphia 76ers for the rights to the 10th-overall pick, former Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns’ point guard Elfrid Payton. They waived Jameer Nelson after 10 years with the team and also got rid of guard E’Twaun Moore, big man Jason Maxiell and guard Ronnie Price. They signed veteran guard Ben Gordon and gave Phoenix Suns’ big man Channing Frye a four-year, $32 million deal. They also claimed Los Angeles Clippers’ guard Willie Green of waivers.
After the Magic signed veteran point guard Luke Ridnour, who played for the Milwaukee Bucks and Charlotte Hornets (then-Bobcats) last season, it looked like their offseason was over. However, that was not the case.
According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports, the Magic have agreed to a deal with free agent point guard Peyton Siva, who was waived by the Detroit Pistons two weeks ago..
Siva becomes the 16th player on the Magic’s roster so they will have a few things to settle in training camp. According to Josh Robbins of The Orlando Sentinel, Siva’s deal is non-guaranteed and he will be joining the Magic’s D-League affiliate, the Erie Bayhawks.
Siva helped lead the Louisville Cardinals to the 2013 National Title and then was drafted with the 56th-overall pick in the second round of the draft. Siva averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 assists in 9.3 minutes per game. He shot 31.6% from the field while appearing in 24 games.
