ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith certainly did his best to take all of the headlines away from the athletes and sports that he covers everyday on ESPN Radio and ESPN First Take with his comments about the Ray Rice situation. Now because of those comments, he won’t be doing either of those jobs for one week.

Just a short time ago on Tuesday, ESPN released a statement that says Smith will be suspended for one week from performing both duties, and will return next Wednesday.

"“ESPN announced today that Stephen A. Smith will not appear on First Take or ESPN Radio for the next week. He will return to ESPN next Wednesday.”"

After the decision came through from the NFL that Rice would only be suspended for two games following the incident a few months ago in which he was caught on tape dragging his wife through an elevator at a casino, the popular opinion was that Rice didn’t get nearly enough of what he deserved.

However, on First Take, Smith decided to go against the grain in probably the worst way possible that he could by suggesting that Rice’s wife may have brought the alleged abuse on by herself. Immediately the internet attacked Smith for the comments, with even his colleague Michelle Beadle taking shots at him for the remarks.
